Darius Delgado, Globe Telecom’s chief commercial officer, was recently appointed a board member of the World Broadband Association (WBBA), the first Filipino to sit in the prestigious board.
Established in July 2021 and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, the WBBA unites industry leaders in broadband and cloud technology to close the digital divide and maximize the social, environmental, and economic benefits of equitable digital access worldwide.
Globe officially joined the WBBA in April 2024 and is one of only three Philippine telecom firms in the association.
With a seat on the board, Globe gains a platform to contribute to global broadband development. It can now engage in key industry discussions and collaborate on solutions that address connectivity gaps and drive sustainable network expansion.
“Being part of the WBBA board enables Globe to collaborate with global industry leaders in shaping the future of broadband and promo. We look forward to contributing insights and innovations that will enhance connectivity and expand access, especially in emerging markets such as the Philippines,” said Delgado.
“We’re really thrilled to welcome Globe Telecom into the WBBA Board. It’s a great opportunity for them to join the growing family of #WBBA members, to come together and discuss the challenges and opportunities of Broadband in a fast-changing world,” said Martin Creaner, WBBA director general.
Through its WBBA membership, Globe’s broadband arm engages in analyst-led executive roundtables that tackle major industry challenges and drive sustainable development through member collaboration.
Globe also actively participates in international digital symposiums to amplify the WBBA’s core messages within the broadband network ecosystem.
It may likewise contribute to industry research by producing white papers, blogs, and newsletter content.
As of 2024, nearly 3 billion people remain unconnected, with disparities in broadband speeds and infrastructure continuing to hinder global connectivity.
