Senator Christopher "Bong" Go participated in the vibrant Kalilangan Festival here on Sunday, 23 February, emphasizing the importance of such events in preserving cultural traditions, strengthening local identity, and fostering economic growth.

In an interview, Go noted that festivals like Kalilangan serve as more than just annual celebrations, acting as key platforms to stimulate the local economy. "Alam niyo sa bawat festival, may turismo po. Kapag may turismo, may trabaho. May mga investors po na pumapasok kaya ako po’y masaya," he said, highlighting the role of tourism and investments in creating jobs.

Go also expressed gratitude to Mayor Lorelie Geronimo Pacquiao and other local officials for their leadership in organizing the festival and for their commitment to the welfare of the community.

As a strong advocate of grassroots development, Go reiterated his dedication to supporting initiatives that uplift local communities. He co-sponsored and authored Republic Act 11960, also known as the One Town, One Product (OTOP) Philippines Act. The law promotes Filipino-made products and provides small-scale producers with opportunities to expand their market reach, contributing to both local and national economic growth.

The Kalilangan Festival, a staple celebration in Mindanao, commemorates the city's rich cultural heritage. The event is known for its street dancing, trade fairs, cultural performances, and other activities that unite locals and tourists alike.

In his capacity as chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go encouraged those with health concerns to visit the Malasakit Center at Dr. Jorge P. Royeca Hospital in the city or the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital in Koronadal City.

The Malasakit Centers, which have helped over 17.5 million Filipinos, were created under the Malasakit Centers Act, a law primarily authored and sponsored by Go. The centers ensure that Filipinos can easily access medical assistance from government agencies.

As vice chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, Go also voiced his support for local projects, including the construction of two Super Health Centers, multipurpose buildings, and flood control structures in the city. He also backed the acquisition of ambulances and a mini dump truck.

Before attending the festival, Go visited Malapatan, Sarangani, where he witnessed the turnover of the newly established Super Health Center. The facility, built with his support as chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, aims to provide government medical services closer to underserved areas.

Senator Go concluded his visit by urging the people of General Santos City to stay united and resilient, assuring them that he would continue to be a partner in their progress.
