The Democratic governor of the US state of Maine is not budging from President Donald Trump’s order barring transgender athletes from women’s sports, telling the Republican leader on Friday: “See you in court.”
Meanwhile, a transgender actress slammed the President upon getting a new passport that has her gender changed to male.
Trump, who was hosting a gathering of the country’s governors at the White House, asked Governor Janel Mills if she is going to comply with his executive order banning men from playing in women’s sports.
“I’m complying with state and federal laws,” Mills responded.
“Well, we are the federal law... You better do it, because you’re not going to get any federal funding at all if you don’t,” the president threatened.
“See you in court,” she responded.
“Good, I’ll see you in court. I look forward to that. That should be a real easy one. And enjoy your life after governor, because I don’t think you’ll be in elected politics,” a visibly angry Trump replied.
Trump’s order allows US government agencies to deny funds to schools that allow transgender athletes to compete on women’s teams.
Some Maine officials have said they will continue a policy of allowing transgender students to choose which team they play on, citing state law under the Maine Human Rights Act, according to the Portland Press Herald.
Mills and the state’s attorney general have vowed to fight any move to deny the state federal funds, the newspaper reported.
In a TikTok story published Thursday evening and rebroadcast as a video Friday, Hunter Schafer, known for HBO hit show “Euphoria,” blames the policies of Trump for the modification of her gender — despite having identity documents marked female.
She said she was “shocked” to see the “M” on her passport and that she was spurred to post about it to “note the reality of the situation and that it is actually happening.”
Trans people “are never going to stop existing. I’m never gonna stop being trans, a letter in a passport can’t change that and fuck this administration,” the actress in her twenties said, speaking firmly into the camera on her phone.
