The Philippine agricultural sector celebrates a milestone as it exports its first shipment of frozen durian meat and paste to China, which arrived on 18 February.

The General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China has approved a shipment from Maylong Enterprises Corp., a Davao City-based company, consisting of 1,050 boxes of frozen durian meat and 300 boxes of durian paste. Valued at P8.2 million, the shipment is bound for Nansha District, Guangzhou, China.

The Department of Agriculture-Region XI (DA-RFO XI) and the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) - Plant Quarantine Service Port of Davao played a key role in ensuring full compliance with China’s strict import regulations.

Breakthrough

DA-RFO XI regional executive director Macario Gonzaga hailed the export as a breakthrough for Philippine agriculture, particularly for the durian industry.

“From the fertile soils of Davao Region to China’s bustling markets, our frozen durian represents the hopes and dreams of countless farmers. This achievement showcases what we can accomplish through shared vision and purpose,” he said.

Maylong’s chief operating officer, May Li, reaffirmed her commitment to empowering Davao’s durian growers by helping them access international markets.

“Our goal is to bridge the gap between local farmers and the global stage, ensuring that Philippine durian earns the recognition it truly deserves,” she remarked.
