Metro Manila local executives rallied Tuesday behind Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas, the administration-backed Senate slate, at its campaign kickoff.
The Metro Manila Council has solicited support from fellow mayors for the coalition. He cited the administration’s housing program as an example of its commitment.
The Alyansa ticket includes former Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos, Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay, Senators Bong Revilla, Lito Lapid, Imee Marcos and Francis Tolentino; former Senators Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, Manny Pacquiao and Vicente “Tito” Sotto III; ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo; and Deputy Speaker Camille Villar.
Meantime, Muntinlupa City Mayor Ruffy Biazon stressed the importance of electing senators who will support the administration’s plans.
"The general call is that we have a Senate that fully supports our president so he can do what he needs to do in the remaining portion of his term," Biazon said.
Mandaluyong City Mayor Benjamin Abalos Sr., on the other hand, said the Alyansa slate is unbeatable if supporters remain united.
All 12 Alyansa candidates attended the rally at Cuneta Astrodome. Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano endorsed the slate and called on residents to support it.
"Being the gateway to Metro Manila, of course, we should also be the gateway to new opportunities, a brighter future, and renewed citizenry," Calixto-Rubiano said.
The mayors’ endorsements signal momentum for the coalition in Metro Manila.
