After an absence of seven years, the Philippines returns to active competition when Thailand hosts the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games from 9 to 20 December.
Philippine Squash Academy (PSA) executive director Robert Bachmann told DAILY TRIBUNE said Kayod Pilipinas will be made up of David Pelino and Reymark Begornia who recently settled for a silver medal after a 9-11, 6-11, loss against Malaysia in the 25th International Jumbo Doubles for President’s Cup 2025 in Singapore.
“Yeah, so jumbo doubles is included in SEA Games and then of course the singles event. So all in all, men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s jumbo doubles under-21, and mixed jumbo doubles under-21,” said Bachmann, who is also the president of the Southeast Asian Squash Federation.
The last time squash was played in the SEA Games was back in 2019 when the Philippines hosted the prestigious biennial meet.
Kayod Pilipinas finished with a 1-2-2 gold-silver-bronze medal tally.
Bachmann said Kayod Pilipinas will join the SEA Cup in Bangkok and the PSA Sattelite Tour this year to gear up for the biennial meet.
“Aside from the SEA Games, we also have the Southeast Asian Cup, which is also going to happen before the SEA Games. So it’s more of like a trial championship before the SEA Games that will be held in Bangkok as well,” Bachmann said.
“So we have foreign players coming in to compete in our PSA closed satellite. That’s where the players gain their ranking points, world ranking points.”
