In 1898, Club Filipino's original home was at the Bachrach Mansion in Santa Mesa, Manila. Intended to be a Filipino high society club, it eventually opened its doors on 21 September 1956 to the public, with no less than President Ramon Magsaysay leading the inauguration, where he also registered to be a club member himself.

But Club Filipino didn’t just host parties and gatherings; it became a backdrop for some of the country’s most unforgettable political moments. On 25 February 1986, former President Corazon Aquino held her inauguration at Club Filipino after the People Power Revolution catapulted her to replace Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr., the supposed winner of the 1986 snap elections.

In 2000, then-Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson dropped a bombshell here, exposing an illegal gambling scam (jueteng) linked to former President Joseph Estrada. The revelation sparked a political storm.

Furthermore, in 2009, then-Senator Noynoy Aquino chose Club Filipino to announce his presidential run, setting the stage for his eventual victory in 2010. Fast forward to 2015, and the same venue saw Noynoy as the sitting president while endorsing Mar Roxas as his chosen successor.

Today, 13 February 2025, another opposition to a new Marcos administration unfolds. Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP-Laban), which aims to challenge the alleged corrupt practices of those in power and bring significant change to the country, makes its stand. The political party, led by former President Rodrigo Duterte and his daughter, House-impeached Vice President Sara Duterte, announces their campaign slate's kick-off at Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan.

From presidential announcements to political controversies, Club Filipino has been more than just a social club, it’s been a witness to history. And as the political landscape continues to evolve, this iconic venue remains a powerful symbol of the nation's journey, reflecting the pulse of Philippine democracy.
