Gov’t warns of alleged foreign spies blending into Phl society

Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Atty. Joel Anthony Viado said the alleged foreign spies recently apprehended by authorities appear to have integrated into society.

Viado claimed that, in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s strong mandate to safeguard national sovereignty, the BI has investigated the records of the alleged spies and found that many have been in the country for decades.

The BI chief added that some have been here since 2002. Before the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) uncovered their involvement in questionable activities, these individuals had been long-term residents with legal status. Some of those arrested held work visas tied to companies in San Juan and Manila, while others were married to Filipinas.

Viado also urged the public to report any foreign nationals whose activities could jeopardize national security.

He emphasized that the bureau is committed to stopping these undesirable aliens from abusing the country's hospitality. The BI is working closely with the Department of Justice (DOJ), NBI, and AFP to gather information about the suspects.
