The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Sunday revealed that the crime rate in Malabon City has decreased despite online reports of proliferating street crimes.
In a joint statement with the Malabon City Police Station, the DILG said local police conducted proactive policing, including strengthened community engagement and law enforcement operations, which lessened burglary incidents.
The DILG statement cited a significant decrease in theft incidents, from 175 reported cases in 2023 to 114 in 2024.
Robbery incidents also decreased, from 37 in 2023 to 34 in 2024.
It also reported that Malabon City Police arrested at least 260 people in anti-illegal drug operations and another 45 in anti-illegal firearms operations.
The DILG encouraged Malabon City residents to be wary of fake news about the city’s security and to trust the local government’s efforts toward peace and development.
This comes after some social media posts claimed that there is a rise in street crimes in Malabon City.
Malabon City Representative Jaye Lacson-Noel also met with Malabon City Chief of Police P/Col. Jay Baybayan to increase police visibility on public roads.
Earlier this month, Malabon police made several significant arrests, including the seizure of 535 grams of suspected shabu in Barangay Potrero, with an estimated street value of P3.6 million.
