Canlubang and Luisita, two clubs with the most storied rivalry in the history of the Philippine Airlines (PAL) Interclub, will be honored alongside three other distinguished clubs as they are inducted into the tournament’s Hall of Fame.
This special recognition comes in time for the 76th staging of the PAL Interclub, often regarded as the country’s unofficial team golf championship.
Both Canlubang and Luisita will be enshrined in both the Men’s and Seniors divisions, a well-deserved accolade for the intense yet camaraderie-filled rivalry that has defined the tournament for decades. Their remarkable contributions have added significant color to the PAL Interclub’s storied legacy.
The Sugar Barons of Canlubang are the most successful team in the Men’s division, with an impressive 17 PAL Interclub victories. They were the first club to win five consecutive titles (2006 to 2010) and four straight titles (2000 to 2003). Their Seniors team also earns Hall of Fame honors with 11 victories, highlighted by a four-year streak from 2006 to 2009.
Luisita, on the other hand, holds the record for the most wins by any Senior team in PAL Interclub history, with 18 victories. Their remarkable six-year winning streak from 2000 to 2005 remains unmatched. The regular Luisita team is also an eight-time champion, with a standout three-peat from 1991 to 1993.
Joining Canlubang and Luisita in the Hall of Fame for the Regular Men’s Championship are Bacolod Golf and Country Club, Camp Aguinaldo, and the recent powerhouse Manila Southwoods. Southwoods has dominated men’s play in recent years, capturing seven of its nine titles since 2015. This includes four straight wins from 2015 to 2018 and three consecutive victories from 2020 to 2024, not counting the two years the tournament was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bacolod, a 10-time champion, was the first team to win the event three years in a row, from 1963 to 1965. Aguinaldo, meanwhile, claimed all three of its titles during a string of victories that began with the 1988 edition.
As the 76th PAL Interclub approaches, the Seniors competition will kick off in Bacolod on February 10, with Del Monte defending its title. Meanwhile, the Men’s action begins on 18 February, with Southwoods aiming for a third consecutive championship.
