In extending his greetings to the Filipino-Chinese community celebrating the Chinese New Year on Wednesday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. called for bolder aspirations for the greater good.
In his message, Marcos described the Chinese New Year as a cultural splendor that “symbolizes hope, renewal and perseverance.”
He urged Filipinos to take inspiration from these values, particularly in times of challenges.
“As we welcome a new year of self-improvement and good fortune, let this event inspire us to boldly set our intentions and confidently pursue grand ambitions not only for ourselves but for the greater good,” Marcos said.
Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, is the most important traditional holiday celebrated by Chinese people in many countries with significant Chinese populations.
The festival marks the beginning of the lunar calendar and typically falls between 21 January and 20 February.
Marcos said the occasion is a “cherished” one, which is “steeped in centuries-old tradition and joy.”
He added that this occasion should remind the public to view every challenge as an opportunity for growth, and that “every effort, guided by clarity and resolve, is a chance to fulfill our shared aspirations.”
“Let this event inspire us to boldly set our intentions and confidently pursue grand ambitions not only for ourselves but for the greater good,” he said.
Marcos then encouraged Filipinos to embrace the “promise of prosperity with courage and determination” in the Year of the Snake — a symbol of wisdom, intuition, and transformation.
The Chief Executive also reflected on the symbolism of the vibrant lanterns typically associated with the celebration, likening them to the bright future the nation could attain if it stood united in purpose.
“As we welcome a new year, let the vibrant lanterns that illuminate our celebration also brighten our purpose as a nation,” he said.
“May this auspicious time rekindle our commitment to a Bagong Pilipinas-inspiring new beginnings, forging fruitful endeavors, and deepening our duty to strengthen the ties that bind us as a country.”
In a separate statement, the National Security Council (NSC) also extended its “warm wishes” to the Filipino-Chinese community.
“This season reminds us of the power of wisdom, resilience, and transformation in building a brighter, more secure future,” the NSC stated.
“Together, let us embrace hope, strengthen bonds, and inspire change for a prosperous Bagong Pilipinas!,” it added.
