Following a magnitude 6.1 earthquake centered in Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) reported no significant damage to airports under its jurisdiction in the Zamboanga Peninsula.
As a precautionary measure, operations at Zamboanga International Airport (ZIA) were temporarily suspended to allow for a thorough inspection of its infrastructure. Standard safety protocols were implemented, with passengers, airport personnel, and stakeholders promptly evacuated to designated secure areas.
Initial assessments revealed no injuries among passengers or staff. While minor cracks were found on the walls and ceilings of ZIA's Passenger Terminal Building, no major structural damage was detected. Repair work on the affected areas is already underway to restore the terminal’s safety and functionality.
Other airports in the region, including Pagadian, Dipolog, and Ipil, reported no damage and remain fully operational.
CAAP emphasized that the safety and well-being of travelers, personnel, and stakeholders remain its top priority. The agency is committed to ensuring the structural integrity of its facilities and the seamless resumption of airport operations.
