How important is a good senior high school (SHS) education?

For Mapúa University, the country’s premier engineering and technological school, SHS is not just a stepping stone but also a launchpad for future leaders, innovators and builders of the nation.

The 100-year-old institution strives to redefine learning by equipping its students with future-ready skills and unparalleled advantages necessary to excel in the 21st century.

Mapúa SHS integrates innovative learning methodologies, hands-on experiences, and a unique pathway to higher education. Through this comprehensive approach, students gain the edge they need to thrive in a competitive college and career environment.

A cornerstone of the university’s SHS program is its strategic alignment with its undergraduate programs. By allowing Mapúa SHS subjects to be credited in college, it provides students with a substantial head start in higher education. Such a program accelerates the path to earning a bachelor’s degree in Mapúa, lightens the students’ academic workload, and ensures that they are built to move forward in their academic journey.

Enhanced SHS curriculum

One of the highlights of the university’s SHS program is its seamless integration of cutting-edge technology into the curriculum. Through Information and Communication Technology (ICT) classes, students dive into coding and robotics using platforms like Pythaverse to bring their ideas to life. In one notable activity, students programmed the robots to move in response to sound and navigate obstacles with ultrasonic sensors — an experience that not only sharpens their technical skills but also fosters critical thinking and creativity.

As a forward-thinking institution, Mapúa’s emphasis on experiential learning also extends to the sciences, allowing students to engage in hands-on laboratory experiments that cultivate a profound understanding of complex concepts with real-world application.

“Understanding a concept is valuable, but seeing it unfold in practice is transformative. The flame test activity brings science to life for our students, allowing them to witness how substances produce vibrant colors when exposed to heat. This immersive experience fosters deep appreciation for scientific discovery and equips students with practical skills rarely offered at SHS level,” shared Charlotte Monteiro, Senior High School principal.

Building future leaders, innovators

As the university approaches its centennial year, Mapúa remains steadfast on building students to successfully advance in their academic journey. With its unparalleled dedication to academic excellence, Mapúa SHS ensures students are not only college-ready but are empowered to triumph in the challenges of higher education and beyond.

“Mapúa Senior High School is a nurturing ground for future builders, leaders, and innovators — a vision made possible through the university’s continuous pursuit of excellence and innovation, which is deeply embedded to its education, faculty, and facilities,” said Monteiro.

For students who want to build a strong future, Mapúa’s online applications for the next academic year are ongoing. Visit admissions.mapua.edu.ph.
