The Philippine government through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday condemned the killing of a Filipina national in Slovenia.
In a statement, the DFA said it was working with the relevant agencies in Slovenia for the immediate repatriation of the remains of Marvil Facturan-Kocjančič to the Philippines.
“The Philippine government condemns the tragic incident that caused the demise of a Filipino citizen in Slovenia, and expresses its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family in the Philippines,” it said.
“The Philippine embassy in Vienna, in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Affairs and other related agencies, is working with Slovenian authorities for the immediate shipment of her remains to the Philippines upon completion of all requisite forensic processes,” it added.
Marvil, 27, was allegedly beaten to death by her Slovenian husband, Mitja Kocjančič, while they were on holiday in Bled, Slovenia on 29 December.
In separate statements, Senators Imee Marcos and Win Gatchalian condemned the killing of the Filipino national, while calling on the DFA and the embassies concerned to extend the necessary support to her family.
“The Philippines must not tolerate any kind of violence of this kind, whether in the Philippines or abroad,” Marcos said.
Gatchalian urged the DFA to assert the need for a thorough and impartial investigation in coordination with the Slovenian government to ensure that the perpetrator is held accountable and brought to justice.
