Departing passenger nabbed over illegal firearms
Abecia also stressed that the PNP-AVSEGROUP will not hesitate to arrest anyone who violates these rules in close coordination and collaboration with airport authorities

The Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP) on Thursday reported that its operatives apprehended a departing passenger for allegedly carrying a firearm at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 last Tuesday night.
In a statement, the PNP-AVSEGROUP said that the operation was in line with the heightened implementation of the nationwide election gun ban.
Authorities identified the arrested passenger as a 63-year-old Filipino resident of Las Piñas City, who was about to board his flight when a .357 caliber revolver —without ammunition — was detected in his black backpack during the final security screening by OTS personnel.
This prompted officers to arrest him.
PNP-AVSEGROUP disclosed that during the initial inquiry, the passenger denied possessing and owning the firearm.
The accused passenger is currently detained at NAIA Police Station 3, and he will face charges for violating Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, 1 in relation to the Omnibus Election Code.
PNP-AVSEGROUP acting director PBGen Christopher M. Abecia reminded gun owners of their responsibility to follow the law, particularly during the election period.
He added that adherence to laws and regulations — especially during the gun ban implemented by the Commission on Elections — is crucial to avoid legal issues and other consequences.
Abecia also stressed that the PNP-AVSEGROUP will not hesitate to arrest anyone who violates these rules in close coordination and collaboration with airport authorities.
