
MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL — A three-time gold-medal athlete received a newly-built residential house from the chief executives of this province, as a gift for his athletic triumphs during the 2024 Northern Mindanao Regional Athletic Association (NMRAA) Meet.
For his athletic excellence and perseverance, NMRAA gold medalist Benerando Basan is made recipient of a new home from Governor Henry Oaminal, along with his family and support of Plaridel Mayor Gadwin Handumon, who made a significant gesture of generosity on Monday, 13 January, during the house blessing and turnover ceremony, at Barangay Panalsalan, Plaridel, here.
Handed over to the young athlete of Misamis Occidental was a newly-built two-bedroom house, complete with water and electrical connections.
Governor Oaminal praised Benerando’s extraordinary achievements, which brought immense pride to the province. At the age of 13 years old, Benerando won three gold medals in long jump, triple jump, and the 400-meter relay during the NMRAA 2024 in Camiguin.
This accomplishment not only showcased his athletic talent but also highlights the power of determination and resilience, a shining example of what can be achieved through hard work and dedication, Oaminal said.
He emphasized that the province is committed to providing young athletes with the resources they need to excel and make Misamis Occidental proud.
Benerando’s journey serves as an inspiration to all, showing that with perseverance, dreams can be achieved, he added.
As part of the province’s recognition, Benerando also received a P150,000 cash reward, along with a commitment of free education up to college, aimed to secure Benerando’s future and motivate other young athletes to pursue their goals.
