Eighty-five motorists, including 22 drivers, were apprehended over worn-out tires of their vehicles during the Land Transportation Office’s (LTO) aggressive road safety operations.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II, stated that these law enforcement operations were conducted from 7 to 8 January across various areas of the National Capital Region.
“The focus of the operations was on trucks and passenger utility vehicles due to the frequent road accidents involving these types of vehicles,” Mendoza said.
In his report, Director Eduardo De Guzman of the LTO-Law Enforcement Service noted that 22 motorists were apprehended after officers discovered their vehicles had worn-out tires.
The majority of those apprehended were truck drivers.
Twelve motorists were also caught for using unregistered vehicles, while 51 others faced penalties for various offenses, including reckless driving, failure to wear a helmet, and driving without a license.
“We will continue these operations to ensure compliance from all motorists. It’s crucial that our personnel remain visible on the ground, as their presence compels erring motorists to follow the rules,” Mendoza emphasized.
“We’ve repeatedly urged motorists to be disciplined and do what is right. We appreciate the majority of law-abiding motorists, and for the few who remain defiant, our enforcers will be there to uphold road safety rules and regulations,” he added.
