More than 300,000 Cebuanos are expected to converge for the National Peace Rally organized by the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) on 13 January 2025.
This was disclosed on Friday, 10 January, by Cebu gubernatorial candidate Pamela Baricuatro during a press conference.
Baricuatro, who is currently the Cebu convenor of Hakbang Ng Maisug-Cebu, expressed her support for the INC initiative. She noted that INC has provided buses for those coming from cities and municipalities in Cebu.
Peter Tiu Lavina of Hakbang Ng Maisug stated that in Cebu City, the peace rally will be held at the South Road Properties (SRP) at around 3 p.m.
He said the rally is open to all, as announced by INC, especially those who voted for and supported Vice President Sara Duterte in the 2022 elections.
“Our estimate is 300,000 in Cebu alone, but we are mobilizing the province and surrounding areas. The INC is providing buses for those who want to come into the city and join the rally,” Baricuatro said.
Lavina added that the rally may include political aspirants, but they will not be allowed to speak during the event.
These politicians will also be prohibited from campaigning for the upcoming election.
“I think many will come, especially politicians seeking election in 2025. Because of the block voting by the INC, they also prefer to be in the INC lineup,” Lavina noted.
INC personnel attending the rally will wear white t-shirts, while Duterte's supporters are encouraged to wear green and black.
Baricuatro clarified that the rally is not opposed to the Marcos administration but is intended to defend the vice president and stop the impeachment initiative.
