Senatorial candidate Luis "Manong Chavit" Singson has called for the nationwide expansion of economic zones, presenting them as vital tools for economic growth, job creation, and national security. His platform, focused on establishing economic zones in every province, echoes recent remarks by Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile, who emphasized their role in ensuring stability during crises.
Building Economic Zones for Balanced Development
Singson, a seasoned businessman and public servant, envisions economic zones as the backbone of a thriving Philippines. Speaking at recent engagements in Subic Bay and La Union, Singson shared his plans to foster industrialization and attract foreign investment to underserved areas.
“We need to bring jobs closer to the people,” Singson emphasized. “Economic zones will ensure that Filipinos can find opportunities at home rather than looking abroad, while also driving industrialization and balanced regional development.”
His proposal echoes Enrile’s insights on the strategic importance of ecozones. Enrile recently highlighted that the Philippines’ 427 economic zones serve as vital hubs for progress and national security. He stressed that these zones, particularly those in less vulnerable areas like the eastern seaboard, could ensure economic stability during wartime or calamities.
“Manong Chavit’s initiative aligns perfectly with the vision of creating a resilient and inclusive economy,” Enrile remarked.

Learning from Experience, "May isang Salita"
Singson’s track record lends credibility to his proposal. As chairman of the LCS Group of Companies, he successfully developed two major economic zones in South Korea, including the K-Beauty Industrial Complex and the Mangsang District 1 development project. These initiatives have not only driven industrial growth but also highlighted the potential for Philippine economic zones to attract global investments.
“I’ve done this in Korea, and I know it can be done here,” Singson said. “These zones are not just about economics—they’re about empowering communities and building a nation that’s prepared for future challenges.”
