The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) conducted surprise drug tests on 2 January 2025, initially targeting 504 police officers as part of its internal cleansing efforts.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Janette Rafter, PRO-7 spokesperson, said Brigadier General Roy Parena deemed it timely to conduct the random testing during the first week of the new year.
She added that PRO-7’s goal is to have all personnel undergo drug testing as part of its broader efforts to ensure accountability and transparency.
The initiative reflects a collaborative effort among agencies to strengthen internal cleansing measures within the Philippine National Police (PNP).
"The surprise drug tests reflect PRO-7's commitment to promoting professionalism and transparency within the Philippine National Police. It is essential that we maintain the integrity of our communities," said PRO-7 Officer-In-Charge Police Brigadier General Roy Parena.
Parena emphasized that the tests aim to cultivate a drug-free environment within the police force, highlighting the importance of accountability and healthy practices.
In cases where an officer’s test yields a positive result, Rafter said the PRO-7 will take the necessary steps to process administrative cases against the offending officers.
