The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has expressed deep concern and pledged full cooperation following the arrest of a Filipino household worker in Kuwait, accused of causing the death of an 18-month-old child in her employer’s household.
In a statement Saturday evening, the DMW extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and the Kuwaiti government, describing the tragedy as an isolated incident that does not reflect the values upheld by the Filipino workforce.
“We humbly provide the assurance that this tragic incident is isolated and does not represent the values of Filipinos and overseas Filipino workers, who are known for their caring nature, professionalism, dedication, and hard work,” the DMW said.
The department confirmed its close coordination with the Philippine Embassy and the Migrant Workers Office in Kuwait to ensure cooperation with local authorities and provide appropriate assistance to the detained worker, in full compliance with Kuwaiti law.
“The DMW, through the Philippine Embassy and Migrant Workers Office in Kuwait, is closely coordinating with Kuwaiti authorities while extending the necessary assistance to the subject domestic worker, with due regard for Kuwaiti laws and the DMW mandate,” the statement added.
