The release date for The Batman sequel has been postponed to 1 October 2027.
DC Studios co-chief James Gunn revealed that the delay stems from the lack of a completed script. “Matt Reeves is committed to making the best film possible, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write,” Gunn shared on Threads.
Initially confirmed in 2022, the sequel will see Robert Pattinson reprise his role as Gotham’s iconic superhero.
Reeves’ The Batman (2022) was a post-pandemic theatrical success for Warner Bros., grossing $369.3M domestically and $772M worldwide.
Replacing The Batman sequel's previous date on 2 October 2026, is a new untitled film starring Tom Cruise and directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu.
