BAGUIO CITY — The Tuba Municipal Police is advising motorists, especially those unfamiliar with the area such as tourists visiting Baguio and other Benguet areas, to avoid passing Kennon Road in Benguet.

“In light of the current road situation along Camp 2, Kennon Road, Tuba, Benguet, motorists operating light vehicles such as sedans, hatchbacks, and other similar vehicles are strongly advised to take alternate routes via Marcos Highway or Asin Road,” as written in the police advisory.

Motorists often prefer Kennon Road as it is the shortest route going to Benguet areas and Baguio City.

According to the authorities in charge of Kennon Road in their recent assessments, sections of Kennon Road, particularly in higher elevations, have uneven and rough surfaces.

Such conditions can pose significant challenges for smaller and less robust vehicles. Owners of smaller vehicles are vulnerable to damage and accidents due to the road conditions.

Before and after Christmas Day, motorists experienced significant delays, often waiting for hours to traverse Kennon Road due to heavy traffic.

This occurred despite thousands of motorists opting to travel via Kennon Road amid the poor conditions along the said highway.

In the past months, especially during the typhoon season, the road was only accessible to residents along the highway.

Construction and rehabilitation work is still ongoing on sections of Kennon Road.
