All police units in the country were ordered on Friday to prepare for effective nationwide security measures to maintain peace and order during New Year’s Day.
In a statement, PNP Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil instructed all police units to remain “vigilant and proactive” against potential risks associated with New Year celebrations, including accidents due to fireworks and traffic incidents.
He also ordered police officers to remain attentive to emergency situations while on duty and ensure prompt action is taken when needed.
“The New Year is a time of celebration, but it is also important to be aware of the risks that come with it. Our responsibility goes beyond just enforcing peace and order — it extends to ensuring the safety of our fellow citizens,” Marbil told cops in a police briefing.
“Police personnel should be ready to assist in any emergency, including fire incidents, accidents, and providing first aid when necessary,” he added.
Marbil likewise instructed all police officers to make sure that all mobile units are equipped with fire safety devices and first aid kits so they can immediately provide assistance in emergencies.
“Public safety is a shared responsibility, and our officers must be ready to respond swiftly and effectively,” he said.
He added that the PNP will maintain heightened alert status throughout the yuletide season.
Meanwhile, Marbil also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
