Double Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo wants to keep improving ahead of a busy schedule in 2025.
Yulo, 24, said he can’t afford to be left behind against other gymnasts around the world as he gets back into training.
The two-time world champion took a break in August after his triumphant performance in the Paris Olympics.
“I need to do better knowing the other gymnasts around the world are not resting. I need to match that and I am excited for the training I will have for next year,” Yulo said.
“I want to test how it feels to compete and see what more I can improve on.”
Yulo will have a busy schedule in 2025, starting with the FIG Apparatus World Cup from 20 to 23 February in Cottbus, Germany and the 12th Senior Asian Gymnastics Championships in Jecheon, South Korea from 5 to 8 June.
Then, there is also the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta from 19 to 25 October as he guns for a third gold medal after winning the men’s floor exercise in the 2019 edition in Stuttgart, Germany and the vault in the 2021 edition in Kitakyushu, Japan.
Capping off the year is the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand from 9 to 20 December.
Yulo said he will have different goals in each competition to gauge himself.
“Depending on the result and the competition, I will have different goals. If it is good, I would focus more on the details of the performance,” Yulo said.
“If the performance is not good, I will try to add more things like technique and endurance.”
