A Pasig City court on Friday denied the petition for bail filed by dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo and others in her qualified trafficking case after the prosecution presented a strong case against them, the court said.
The denial of the petition was confirmed Friday by Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon.
The Pasig Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 167 said it denied the petition “considering that the evidence presented by the prosecution against them during the bail hearing is strong.”
Guo is currently detained at the Pasig City Jail female dormitory.
The dismissed mayor and her co-accused have been charged with violating the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, as amended by the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Acts of 2012 and 2022.
The charges stemmed from a raid on a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator hub in Bamban in June, where over 800 Filipinos and foreigners were rescued.
In September, Guo pleaded not guilty to the charges. Atty. Nicole Jamilla, one of her lawyers, said the embattled former mayor firmly denies the allegations against her.
Guo is also facing a graft case before a Valenzuela City court and a material misrepresentation case before a Tarlac court.
Additionally, a quo warranto petition has been filed against her with a Manila court, as well as a petition to cancel her birth certificate before a Tarlac court.
At the Department of Justice, Guo is facing a tax evasion complaint, 87 counts of money laundering, and complaints of perjury and falsification.
Guo has denied the numerous charges filed against her.
