The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has released the names and number of nominees of the Regional Parliament Political Party (RPPP) groups that will vie in the May 2025 Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliamentary Elections (BPE).
In Resolution 11090 dated 18 December, and obtained by DAILY TRIBUNE on Friday, the seven-member commission en banc instructed the poll body’s Education and Information Department to publish the names of the seven organizations, together with their respective 40 nominees, in two newspapers.
On the list are the Bangsamoro Party (BAPA), Bangsamoro People’s Democratic Party (Raayat Democratic Party), BARMM Grand Coalition (BGC), Mahardika Party (Mahardika), Moro Ako Party (Moro Ako), Progresibong Bangsamoro Party (Pro Bangsamoro Party), and United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP).
The Comelec included in the resolution the percentage of male and female candidates per party as required under the Bangsamoro Electoral Code.
BAPA has 27 male candidates (67.50 percent) and 13 female bets (32.50 percent); Raayat Democratic Party, 28 males (70 percent), 12 females (30 percent); BGC, 26 males (65 percent), 14 females (35 percent); Mahardika Party, 27 males (67.50 percent), 13 females (32.50 percent); Moro Ako Party, 15 males (37.50 percent), 25 females (62.50 percent); Progresibong Bangsamoro Party, 28 males (70 percent), 12 females (30 percent); and UBJP, 28 males (70 percent), 12 females (30 percent).
“Section 10, Article V of the Bangsamoro Electoral Code provides that at least 30 percent of the 40 nominees of a party or coalition shall be members who are women,” the resolution read.
A total of 80 seats will be contested in the Bangsamoro polls: 40 for regional political parties, 32 for parliamentary districts, and eight for sectoral organizations.
