Senatorial aspirant Luis "Manong Chavit" Singson will visit Ozamiz City on Wednesday as part of his nationwide effort to connect with communities and promote his platforms for progress. Ozamiz, the most populous city in Misamis Occidental with over 140,000 residents, is a regional hub for agriculture, commerce, education, and trade.

However, the city faces challenges, including infrastructure gaps, economic diversification, security concerns, environmental issues, and disaster preparedness.

Singson, listed as No. 58 on the Senate ballot, has been advocating for the Jeepney Modernization Initiative, which aims to revamp the local public transportation system with eco-friendly, modern vehicles. For a growing city like Ozamiz, this initiative could reduce congestion, cut pollution, and provide reliable emergency transport during natural disasters, aligning with the city’s need for sustainable infrastructure and environmental protection.

Singson will also highlight his VBank Initiative, a digital financial platform designed to provide small businesses, farmers, and entrepreneurs in Ozamiz with access to financing. This platform could help diversify the local economy into manufacturing and services while reducing the risks associated with cash transactions, driving economic resilience.

Additionally, Singson will promote the Chavit 500 Universal Basic Income Program, aimed at uplifting low-income families by providing financial stability. This initiative seeks to reduce poverty, keep children in school, and reduce child labor while strengthening household resilience during disasters.

Environmental sustainability remains a key focus of Singson’s campaign, with support for modernized electric vehicles and green businesses to protect Ozamiz’s coastal environment and marine resources.

As a strategic port city linking the region’s agricultural and mineral products to broader markets, Ozamiz has significant potential as an economic driver for Northern Mindanao. The city’s growing commerce and education sectors further demonstrate its readiness for growth, which Singson’s proposed initiatives aim to foster.

Residents, barangay leaders, and local stakeholders are expected to meet with Singson to discuss his vision for the city, driven by his campaign slogan, "May Isang Salita."

Through his leadership, Manong Chavit aims to bring meaningful development to Ozamiz City and beyond.
