The Philippine Air Force (PAF) on Monday turned over its decommissioned S-211 Marchetti aircraft to a Pasay village for their installation at a local park.
In a blessing and formal transfer ceremony, PAF commanding general LtGen. Stephen Parreño officially handed the aircraft over to Barangay 183, Zone 20 in Villamor, Pasay City.
The decommissioned plane, with tail number 814, was acquired in 1994.
It was previously operated by the PAF’s 5th Fighter Wing under the Air Defense Command.
Parreño said the aircraft served the nation in various capacities, including jet training, air defense exercises, and counter-insurgency operations.
In his message, Parreño stressed that the donation of the S-211 "is not just a commemoration of the past but also a vision for the future, symbolizing the strong relationship between the PAF and the community."
The ceremony was also attended by PAF MGen Fabian M. Pedregosa, Commander of Air Defense Command; BGen Leo A. Fontanilla, Wing Commander of the 5th Fighter Wing; Barangay 183 Chairman Hon. Alvin Zuñiga; HPAF Staff; PAF Executive Committee Members; and employees of Barangay 183.
Parreño said the placement of the aircraft in Barangay 183 serves as a tribute to the historical significance of Nichols Field and also recognized as the birthplace of the Philippine Air Force.
"The S-211 aircraft will serve as a lasting symbol of the PAF's dedication to safeguarding the nation's skies and inspiring future generations," Parreño said.
