Social media has become a medium for celebrity couples to announce their breakups. It could take the form of a ranting post, a subtle status change to “single,” or a wordless “unfollowing” of the other.
Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone, 78, did it differently with his wife, Jennifer Flavin, in 1994. He recently revealed to Fox News that he wrote a six-page letter to Flavin and sent it to her through the courier service FedEx.
Stallone admitted it was a cowardly act.
“You put it down in words ‘cause you don’t have the guts to do it face to face,” the “Rambo” and “Rocky” actor said, according to Fox News.
The pair, however, reconciled and got married in 1997. The marriage produced three daughters.
A user in the American social forum Reddit was also on the receiving end of a breakup notice via technology. He shared screenshots of the letter in the online forum, where it went viral for being brutal.
The letter criticized the 40-year-old man for skateboarding.
“Give me a break. What are you trying to prove? That you can still hang with the younger crowd? Newsflash, Robert: you’re not fooling anyone. You’re one bad fall away from realizing that your youth is long gone, and it’s not coming back. You’re just making a fool of yourself, trying to cling to a version of yourself that never even existed,” the letter read, NDTV reports.
The letter then attacked his looks.
“The glasses? They don’t make you look intellectual or distinguished; they make you look like you’re trying way too hard to be something you’re not. It’s like you’re a walking discount version of someone who barely made it out of high school. You’re the epitome of wasted potential, Robert,” it added, according to NDTV.
“I’m done pretending that you’re someone worth my time, and I’m done with the pathetic excuses you call passions. You’re going nowhere, Robert, and I refuse to let you drag me down with you any longer. Goodbye, and good riddance,” the letter, written by a ChatGPT bot, said.
No one actually broke up with the Reddit user. Curious about how artificial intelligence (AI) would go about dumping someone, he instructed the AI-powered chatbot of OpenAI to compose a very harsh breakup letter using his photo and online information to see how it would read.
Reddit users pitied the man in their comments and reactions. Obviously, ChatGPT delivered.
