American tycoon Amazon founder Jeff Bezos admits he is always late for meetings with his staff, except for one.
“The only meeting I’m ever on time for is my first meeting (of the day), because I won’t finish a meeting until I’m really finished,” said Bezos at the recent New York Times DealBook Summit, the India Times reported.
As his meetings are characterized by meandering topics and he encourages everyone to speak their mind, the protracted discussions have caused Bezos to be late for his next meeting.
Meanwhile, in England, street pay parking machines require parkers to pay the fee strictly within five minutes. Later than that means being charged a late fee.
Rosey Hudson parks her car daily on Copeland Street in Derby, paying the £3.30 fee each day. In February 2023, the parking machine was out of order, so she tried to pay the fee online through a phone app.
Due to a poor signal at the site, however, Hudson always went to the nearby Derbion Center to connect to WiFi and pay online.
Recently, Hudson received a parking charge notice (PCN) from Excel Parking saying she had exceeded the maximum period of five minutes to purchase the tariff at Copeland Street and told her to pay £100 within 28 days, or £60 if she paid within a fortnight, the Independent reported.
She called Excel Parking to explain that the parking machine was broken but they insisted that she pay the fee. After paying the fee, Hudson received nine more PCNs each charging her £100 and other fees for taking between 14 to 190 minutes to pay the tariff, according to the Independent.
A mediation on the payment dispute failed so the case of Hudson and Excel Parking will be decided by a court in the next six months.
