DAVAO CITY — Taiwan has reaffirmed its support for the Philippines by donating 500 metric tons of rice to aid communities affected by recent natural disasters in the Davao Region.
During a turnover ceremony on 12 December, 2024, in Davao City, Representative Wallace Chow of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) underscored the enduring partnership between Taiwan and the Philippines.
“The Philippines has faced a series of devastating natural disasters this year, including severe flooding and landslides in January and torrential rains caused by the southwest monsoon in July," Chow said. “This rice donation is a tangible expression of love from Taiwan.”
Chow also praised the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for its swift and efficient distribution of aid to affected families.
To date, Taiwan has delivered 1,500 metric tons of rice to support families severely impacted by Typhoon Kristine and other calamities earlier in 2024.
Representative Chow reiterated Taiwan’s commitment to standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the Philippines in overcoming challenges and thanked Chairperson Cheloy Garafil of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) for facilitating the smooth importation and distribution of the rice.
