The local government of Valenzuela City has partnered with ACMobility and BYD Cars in a deal that will introduce electric vehicles for use by the city’s police and rescue forces.
Under the agreement signed by Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie "Wes" Gatchalian, a total of 41 electric vehicles will be deployed to the Valenzuela City Police and the Quick Response Team of the Valenzuela City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (VCDRRMO).
The newly acquired vehicles will feature a power output of 150kW (204 horsepower), a battery capacity of 44.9 kWh, and a range of 405 kilometers.
Gatchalian highlighted the significant role these electric vehicles will play in modernizing the local police force.
“Currently in Valenzuela with our 63 police cars, we have a 1:9 police-to-vehicle ratio, but with the signing of the deal, we will have a total of 124 police cars roving around Valenzuela City," Gatchalian said.
The mayor added that the program demonstrates their continued support for the police force, emphasizing the importance of police visibility.
"If our residents feel at ease, even when returning home in the early morning, and if we can focus on addressing the issue of drugs, that is what makes Valenzuela City a livable place," he said.
Gatchalian also instructed Valenzuela City Police Station Chief Nixon Cayaban to prioritize the fight against illegal drugs once the additional vehicles arrive.
“Add police visibility to our border controls and in critical areas where drugs remain prevalent," Gatchalian directed.
The local government allocated P75.7 million for the procurement of 41 five-seater hatchbacks, with 40 units designated for the Valenzuela City Police and one unit for the VCDRRMO.
Aside from the additional vehicles, the city mayor also announced the procurement of 40 motorcycles and radios, which are expected to be delivered by the first quarter of 2025.
In his speech, Cayaban emphasized the cost-efficiency of the new initiatives for police operations.
“It speaks volumes about how Valenzuela is committed to leading by example in building a more sustainable and resilient future,” Cayaban shared.
The event was also attended by NPD District Director OIC PCol Josefino Ligan, NCRPO Acting Regional Director PBGen. Anthony Aberin, heads of BYD Cars Philippines, and local barangay council leaders.
