Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, a health reforms crusader and a staunch advocate for disaster resilience, emphasized the importance of legislative action to safeguard the dignity and welfare of Filipinos affected by calamities and emergencies.
Go expressed satisfaction over the enactment of two significant laws he championed and supported aimed at addressing critical issues faced by vulnerable sectors of society.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed Republic Act 12076, or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, into law on 6 December. This legislation mandates the establishment of safe, permanent and fully equipped evacuation centers in cities and municipalities nationwide. Go, the principal author and co-sponsor of the measure in the Senate, underscored its significance in mitigating the hardships faced by calamity survivors.
He highlighted the need to avoid insufficient evacuation setups, such as schools and covered courts, which disrupt education and lack of proper sanitation facilities.
