A church from Kabankalan, Negros Occidental called on the public to send donations amid the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano.

Kanlaon Volcano erupted on Monday afternoon, prompting the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) to place it under Alert Level 3 or "high level of volcanic unrest."

St. Vincent Ferrer Shrine in La Castellana is currently housing 636 families, or 2,133 individuals, following the eruption.

"The devastation has left them in dire need of immediate assistance, and we are reaching out with heartfelt pleas for support," the parish wrote on its Facebook post.

"Every contribution, no matter how small, can bring hope and relief to those affected during this challenging time," it added.

Donations in various forms, such as financial contributions to provide essential needs such as food, water, shelter, and medical supplies are accepted.

The parish is also accepting in-kind donations such as clothing, blankets, and hygiene products.

State volcanologists also warned of potential similar or stronger eruptions in the coming days.

They also urged the faithful to offer prayers for the victims "for their safety and well-being."

"Your spiritual support offers invaluable comfort and strength to those facing uncertainty and hardship," the church said.

"Let us come together in compassion and solidarity to help rebuild lives and bring light to those in need. We are deeply grateful for any kindness you can share. Together, we can make a difference."

Phivolcs also cautioned about lahar or muddy streamflows, which may occur due to heavy rains and thunderstorms.
