A runaway truck caused a deadly crash in Quezon City on Thursday night, killing four people and injuring 26 others.
The incident occurred at around 6:55 p.m. on the Katipunan Avenue-Aurora Boulevard flyover.
Reports said that the wing van truck, with plate number RJK-719, lost control and collided with multiple motorcycles and vehicles.
Two of the fatalities remain unidentified.
The truck driver — identified as Richard Manupag — was arrested early Friday morning. He will face charges of multiple damage to property, multiple physical injuries and multiple homicide.
Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) against the registered owner and driver of the truck.
The SCO was issued as part of the investigation into the fatal crash.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said the agency is investigating potential lapses on the part of the registered owner, particularly regarding roadworthiness and driver employment.
Mendoza stated that the driver’s license of Mangupag has been preventively suspended for 90 days.
Both the driver’s license and the truck’s plate number have been placed under alarm to prevent any transactions during the investigation.
“Part of the investigation we are conducting is to determine if there are lapses on the part of the registered owner, especially on the aspect of road worthiness and the employment of the driver,” Mendoza said.
