Chinese company Power Construction Corp. of China Ltd. (Power China) has secured an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract with Terra Solar Philippines, Inc. (TSPI) to cover the eastern portion of the MTerra Solar Project.
In a stock exchange filing on Monday, SP New Energy (SPNEC), the parent firm of TSPI, disclosed that Power China will oversee the development of the project’s East section, covering approximately 1,505 hectares in Nueva Ecija, including Brgy. Makabaklay in Gapan, Brgy. Pias in General Tinio, and Brgy. Callos in Peñaranda.
The section will contribute 1,050 MWp to the total capacity of the MTerra Solar Project.
Under the contract, Power China will handle procurement, design, engineering, permitting, manufacturing, testing, logistics, and on-site delivery of materials for the project.
The agreement also covers long-term warranty, defect resolution, and operational maintenance to ensure the facility’s reliability.
“We sign this EPC agreement with Power China recognizing their expertise, exceptional track record, and unwavering commitment to excellence — we know that they will help us realize our bold ambition,” SPNEC President and CEO Manny V. Rubio said.
Power China, an established global leader in electric power infrastructure planning, design, and construction, has delivered large-scale projects across Africa, Asia, and Europe.
Locally, the company was involved in the development of the 540 MW Kauswagan Coal-Fired Power Plant, the 1,320 MW Dinginin Coal-Fired Power Plant, and the Dumanjug Converter Station of the Visayas-Mindanao Interconnection Project.
TSPI is presently constructing a 3,500 MWp solar power facility combined with a 4,500 MWh battery storage system in Central Luzon.
The facility is expected to provide clean energy to over two million households. MGEN Renewable Energy Inc. (MGreen), MGEN’s renewable energy arm, holds a controlling stake in SPNEC.
Recently, MTerra Solar marked a significant development milestone with the groundbreaking at its Gapan, Nueva Ecija site.
The integration of solar energy with a state-of-the-art battery storage system will deliver 850 MW of mid-merit, sustainable power, positioning MTerra Solar competitively alongside conventional power plants.
“MTerra Solar serves as our bold step towards ensuring a sustainable energy future for the Philippines — and with Power China as our partner, we are well on our way to achieving our vision of a cleaner energy future for the Philippines,” TSPI Executive Director Dennis B. Jordan said.
