A 29-year-old motorcycle-riding man, who eluded an anti-criminality checkpoint conducted by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Novaliches Police Station (PS) 4 early Monday morning, now faces multiple offenses.
After a brief chase, law enforcement officers caught the suspect, who yielded an unlicensed firearm.
P/Lt. Col. Josef Geoffrey Lyndon Lim, PS-4 Commander, identified the suspect as Sandy Obsinada, a resident of Barangay Gulod, Novaliches, Quezon City.
Initial reports said that at around 3 a.m. on 2 December, PS 4 operatives were conducting a routine anti-criminality checkpoint along Quirino Highway corner Sarmiento Street, Barangay Nova Proper, Novaliches, when they flagged down the suspect, who was not wearing a helmet.
Instead of complying, he sped off, prompting a brief chase that led to his arrest.
During the confrontation, the suspect failed to present the necessary documents for his firearm and did not possess a valid driver’s license, resulting in his immediate apprehension.
Recovered from the suspect were a Honda Click 125 motorcycle, a black Tigernu sling bag, and a .45 caliber Armscor pistol with one magazine loaded with eight rounds of ammunition.
The suspect will be charged before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office for violation of Republic Act 4136, RA 10054, Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code and RA 10591.
QCPD acting director P/Col. Melecio Buslig Jr. commended the quick action and vigilance of the Novaliches Police Station 4 operatives.
“To the public, I urge everyone to cooperate and comply with traffic and safety regulations. Simple acts like wearing helmets, carrying proper documentation, and adhering to the law are not just legal requirements — they are vital steps to ensure the safety and well-being of all,” Buslig said.
“Let this serve as a firm reminder that the Quezon City Police District will not tolerate violations that can jeopardize public safety. Together, we can build a safer and more secure Quezon City,” he added.
Buslig also vowed to continue implementing the directives of Philippine National Police chief Police General Rommel Marbil and National Capital Region Police Office acting regional director PBGEN Anthony A. Aberin to combat criminality.
