Atty. Romando Artes, acting chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, assured the public of its readiness to provide augmentation amid the planned protest of transport groups today, 16 January.
The MMDA chief said there was minimal complaint from commuters during previous transport strikes as concerned government agencies, including the agency, were able to assist the riding public.
He said the last transport strike the MMDA didn’t recommend any suspension of classes or work because of the readiness of the augmentation in case disruptions in the public transportation will take place.
Artes said they are used to respond because of the repeated rallies, thus they are ready to do it again.
He said in the last transport strike it was observed that there were minimal complaints because the MMDA have responded properly.
As early as 5 in the morning, the MMDA would monitor the situation to make the necessary adjustment if there is a need for it.
Artes said they understand that it is not a tigil pasada (transport holiday) but a protest by the two transport groups, but just the same, they are ready to respond, monitor the situation as early as 5 a.m. and in case there is a disruption in the public augmentation is ready.
The transport group said their protest will begin at the University of the Philippines–Diliman and head to Mendiola in Manila at 9 a.m.
It will end at the Supreme Court, where the transport groups will launch a short program.
