Veteran-laden Biñan started the New Year with a bang by easily whipping Kyusi Pablo Escobets, 92-54, and joining erstwhile unbeaten Nueva Ecija in a share of the lead in the PSL President's Cup at the Filoil-EcoOil Centre in San Juan late Tuesday night.
The Tatak Gel turned to their old reliable KC Canaleta, who finished with 15 points to lead the balance production of the team handled by multi-titled coach Boyet Fernandez, allowing Biñan to notch its eighth straight win in as many games.
Joseph Peñaredondo, Kenny Rocacurva and Jimboy Estrada each produced 10 points apiece for the Tatak Gel, who also came drew a solid game from many-time PBA All-Defensive Team member Marc Pingris.
Pingris scored only four points, but grabbed 15 rebounds as he led Biñan's activity in crashing the boards. The Tatak Gel outrebounded their counterparts, 53-39.
Biñan also produced 42 points inside the paint, 22 more than their rivals.
Also winning was 1Munti, which outlasted Alpha Omega, 87-81.
John Cantimbuhan presided on 1Munti's offense as he led all scorers with 27 points to go along with seven assists.
