City of San Fernando, Pampanga — The Police Regional Office 3 reported on Wednesday that a total of 185 people were injured during the Yuletide season in Central Luzon — which was higher than the previous year — while three were arrested for illegal discharge of firearms.
PRO-3 director Police Brigadier General Jose Hidalgo Jr. disclosed that the number of injuries this year is 41.08 percent higher compared to last year's 76 reported incidents of the same period starting from 16 December 2023 to 1 January 2024.
The three people who were arrested from illegal discharge of firearms are from the provinces of Bulacan, Nueva Ecija and Tarlac. One person from Lupao, Nueva Ecija was allegedly hit by a stray bullet as police are currently investigating the matter.
Hidalgo said that a total of 20,415 pieces of illegal firecrackers worth P196,428 were confiscated, most of which are Judas belt, five-star, piccolo and kwitis, with 13 persons apprehended.
He added that there were no major untoward incidents that took place on 31 December 2023 up to midnight of 2 January 2024.
"As to the assessment of the celebration of Christmas and New Year, it is generally peaceful here in Central Luzon and no PNP personnel was involved in the illegal discharge of firearms," Hidalgo said.
