Two people were admitted to the Ospital ng Muntinlupa due to injuries as they defied the ban on the use of firecrackers in Muntinlupa City.
Report showed that many residents violated two Muntinlupa ordinances that prohibit the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices, and open pipes and mufflers on motorcycles and other vehicles.
On 31 December, people lit up firecrackers, and roamed the streets with noisy motorcycles.
One of those injured was a 27-year-old man from San Guillermo Street in Barangay Bayanan. He was treated at OsMun after suffering from an eye injury due to a trompillo.
Also, a 19-year-old male from Balbanero Compound in Alabang was admitted to OsMun after a kwitis exploded in his hand, causing burns on his thumb and ring finger.
Despite an intense campaign by the city government, police and fire station, that urged the public for a safe welcome to New Year, people defied the ban.
The police had confiscated 7,767 pieces of firecrackers worth P156,120 in different operations in barangays.
Some 239 drivers with motorcycle equipped with open pipes and mufflers were apprehended by the Muntinlupa Police, Muntinlupa Traffic Management Bureau and Public Order and Safety Office two days before the New Year.
