Two years after being put on probation, a former treasurer of the Pasig City government walked free from corruption charges.
This was after the Sandiganbayan Seventh Division terminated the probation of Crispina Vega Salumbre for having been "duly served" as noted by the Pasig City Parole and Probation Office.
The case pertained to Salumbre's alleged anomalous statement of assets, liabilities and net worth from 1999 to 2008, during which she failed to declare several properties, businesses and financial interests.
In 2016, the Ombudsman charged her with 10 counts of graft before the Sandiganbayan.
Graft probers alleged that Salumbre possessed three vehicles — a Kia Picanto, Ford Escape and Mitsubishi L-300 — and two houses located in Barangays San Miguel and Pinagbuhatan in Pasig City.
Moreover, the erstwhile treasurer was said to be an incorporator at the Integrated Manpower Resources Inc. and Potassium Inc.
Salumbre applied for a two-year probation, which was approved by the Sandiganbayan in November 2021.
Last 16 November, the court received the final report approved by the Pasig City Parole and Probation Office informing it that Salumbre had substantially complied with the terms and conditions of her probation and that they recommended that the probation be terminated.
In concurrence with the submission, the Sandiganbayan discharged Salumbre and restored all the civil rights she lost following her conviction.
"Further, the cash bond posted by the accused Salumbre for her provisional liberty is ordered released to her or her duly authorized representative subject to the usual accounting rules and procedure," the Sandiganbayan ordered.
