The Philippines encouraged more Russians to explore the country as their next travel and investment destination.
The invitation came after the Philippines bagged the Tourism Destination of the Year award from the Russian-Asian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs or RAUIE, which was received by Philippine Ambassador to Russia Igor Bailen during the ceremonial 6th Golden Dragon Awards in Moscow on 15 December.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said the RAUIE, a prominent industry union in the Russian Federation, has recognized the Philippines as a "promising tourism and investment destination" for Russians.
Bailen said the Philippine government's economic reforms in the key public services sector "have made 100 percent foreign ownership possible."
"We have more than 7,000 islands that are sunny and warm almost all year round. We have an open and transparent business environment that has recently included groundbreaking legislation that is friendly to foreign partners," he said.
Meanwhile, RAUIE president and chairman Vitaly Mankevich lauded the Philippines' "dedicated work, innovation, and unwavering commitment to establishing direct flights between Moscow and Manila."
Direct flights
Mankevich said implementing direct flights has contributed to the success of Philippine tourism.
He added it also highlighted RAUIE's support in "creating favorable conditions for an increased influx of Russian tourists."
He also emphasized that the award not only signifies a source of pride for the Philippine tourism sector "but also contributes to enhancing the country's global reputation as a welcoming and attractive destination."
