Armed Forces of the Philippine chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. on Wednesday continued his regular visits to the military's most remote stations in the country.
This time, Brawner delivered Christmas gifts to the operating detachment in Las Navas, Samar, and the Philippine Army's 8th Infantry Division.
the AFP chief lauded the troops in the 8ID headquarters in Catbalogan City for their successful fight against the communist armed conflict in the area.
Brawner recalled he was then a young officer operating against communist terrorists in the boundaries of Las Navas, Matuginao, and Jipapad.
He used to serve as the commander of the 2nd Special Forces Battalion and Special Operations Task Group-Samar.
Brawner feted the 8th ID's accomplishments, resulting in the weakening of the New People's Army's guerilla fronts in the province.
"I am very proud that the 8th ID and JTF Storm have achieved so much and accomplished so much that contributed to the success of our campaign against the communist terrorist group in this area," he said.
"Because of this, there are no more active guerilla fronts here and we are confident that we can finish the fight against the remaining weakened enemy formations next year," he added.
