A South Korean wanted in his country for pimping was detained by the Bureau of Immigration on Wednesday afternoon at the BI main office in Intramuros, Manila.
The Bureau identified the Korean fugitive as Oh Myunggyun, 49 years old. He was intercepted after attempting to extend his temporary visitor's visa.
BI tourist visa section chief Raymond Remigio said that Oh was accosted after frontline personnel Mark Vallejo and Lourdes Maliksi discovered that he has an active derogatory record.
Oh is accused of being a fugitive from justice, and as a result, the BI issued a summary deportation order against him. Oh's passport has already been canceled, and the Korean government has issued an arrest order for him for arranging commercial sex acts.
Remigio added that the subject was immediately arrested and is now temporarily detained in the BI's holding facility in Bicutan, Taguig.
BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco lauded the personnel involved in the arrest and warned foreign nationals not to attempt to use the country to evade facing their crimes.
"We have close coordination with foreign governments that send us information about wanted fugitives," Tansingco said. "These fugitives face arrest, deportation, and blacklisting," he warned.
