To strengthen firefighting capacity across the Philippines, the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Bureau of Fire Protection on Friday distributed 54 brand-new fire trucks to local fire stations.

The modern 1,000-gallon vehicles were allocated to stations lacking adequate equipment or facing aging fleets, said DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos. "This distribution underscores President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s and the DILG's commitment to the safety of our communities and citizens," he stated.

Bicol Region received the most trucks, with eight units, followed by CARAGA (seven) and Northern Mindanao (five).

Other allocations include: Calabarzon, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, with four each; Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, SOCCSKSARGEN, National Capital Region, three each; Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, two each; and one unit for the Cordillera Administrative Region.

The trucks come fully equipped with essential firefighting tools like hoses, nozzles and foam generators, adhering to Philippine conditions and fire service standards.

Abalos emphasized the government's commitment to firefighter training and development.

"Beyond acquiring equipment, we will also enhance firefighters' skills and expertise through capacity-building activities, introducing new techniques and technologies as part of the BFP modernization program," he said.
