Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto announced Wednesday that they will increase the city government's local senior pension by next year.
Instead of lowering the age for the centenarian incentive, the local government has created a new program that gives incentives to senior citizens 65 years old and above.
"I am often asked if the age can be lowered for the centenarian incentive from the local government unit. But if that's the case, the centenarian incentive will lose its meaning and for being special," Sotto said.
"So instead of lowering the age for this, we created a new program — the local senior pension (P3,000 per year for 65 years old who don't have yet pension). This is much bigger than the centenarian incentives. In the following years, we will further expand the coverage of the local senior pension," the mayor added.
