The local government of Quezon City announced that a French company has proposed the deployment of cable cars to ease traffic congestion in Metro Manila.

This comes following the meeting between Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and French transport company POMA Group, which prepared a cable car concept for the metropolis based on consultations with the Department of Transportation.

After its two-year study, the POMA Group found that it was feasible to establish a cable car corridor along the Marikina River, which straddles Marikina City, Quezon City and Pasig City.

Upon completion, the cable car system will connect the Light Rail Transit 2 station in Santolan and the Eastwood, Libis area through the upcoming Metro Rail Transit 4.

The company was quoted as saying that the cable cars will ease the traffic grind in Metro Manila, with some 30,000 to 40,000 commuters experiencing faster travel.
