The Southern Police District said it has adopted a proactive and vigilant holiday season strategy dubbed "Ligtas Paskuhan 2023."
With a robust deployment plan of 2,425 police personnel and an additional 925 force multipliers, the SPD said it is dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all its residents and visitors.
This year's initiative includes the strategic deployment of 292 personnel in places of convergence and 98 at transport terminals.
It also strengthened street-level vigilance, with 450 beat patrollers and 83 tactical motorcycle rider units, which will reinforce SPD's efforts.
Some 1,436 SPD personnel will focus on anti-criminality measures, supported by a specialized Red Team comprising 66 members, it added.
"Continuous operations like Oplan Galugad and proactive community engagement through barangay visitation are at the core of our strategies," emphasized the SPD leadership.
The SPD said it will leverage social media platforms for information dissemination and community mobilization, aiming to enhance awareness and cooperation among citizens.
To ensure a secure Yuletide season, SPD will intensify simultaneous anti-crime and law enforcement operations, establish law enforcement checkpoints at strategic locations, and maximize deployment in places of convergence.
Special operations around 95 churches and collaboration with LGUs, barangays, and government agencies aim to secure areas with large gatherings, such as the Simbang Gabi.
"Malls and other convergence spots are on our radar as potential targets for pickpockets and criminals," said P/Brig. Gen. Mark D. Pespes.
Efforts will focus on crime prevention through proactive measures, including the deployment of personnel in crime-prone areas and a comprehensive public information campaign against indiscriminate firing and unsafe pyrotechnics.
